Reynolds & Sons 1840.
R1 courts and Reynolds first ace (subsequent aces read Reynolds & Co.) Wonderful condition for age. 52 complete. Reynolds, along with Hardy, were among the first makers to introduce designs on the backs of their cards. Up until the 1830's almost all packs of cards had blank backs (unless they were made for commemorative purposes ) a few were coloured but it wasn't until the 1850's that it became common to decorate the backs of standard cards. Not so easy for cheats to smudge the back and mark the cards with a patterned back!
