Mahogany playing card compendium. 1910
Lovely mahogany playing card compendium from circa 1905-1910. Usually these expensive and beautifully made compendiums contained several different games, chess, draughts, etc. This is slightly more unusual in that it is for playing cards only. Box contains 4 X 32 card bezique decks and 2 X 52 standard decks, each with very nice art nouveau backs. There are 2 wooden Camden bezique markers, 2 wooden fosters whist markers. 2 leather covered whist score pads with pencils and 6 rule books, dated 1904 to 1906, each for a different card game and each with glinting edges to the pages. The box is a lovely deep rich colour and all the contents are in wonderful condition, the compendium has obviously rarely been handled, much less used. Original key and lock work beautifully.
