These were known as "Insert" cards and were hugely popular with collectors in the late 19th century, with a variety of themes. From sports idols to alcohol, cigarette brands to theatrical stars, many hundreds of thousands were made There were several editions of this pack made but this is the first, originally produced by Moore and Calvi in the early 1890s. They feature paintings of ladies adopting what were fairly risque poses for the times. Hard A Port was a chewing tobacco, a much more popular habit in the USA, especially rural areas, until about the 1st WW when smoking became more common. 52 cards plus one Joker, excellent condition.
